Ilico consists of 65 one and two bedroom apartments over five levels, developed for purchasers with a limited budget in the newly established suburb of Stonefields in Auckland.
There are two vertical circulation cores servicing boardwalks at each level which in turn provide bridge access to each apartment.
All of the apartments have either a north facing courtyard or balcony, with shading and privacy provided by metal screening. The carefully considered composition of these screens with the lightweight balconies and elevated boardwalks create depth and shadow, breaking down the building mass and ensuring a high degree of articulation along the façades.
For the external steel work the client was looking for a coating that would meet their durability requirements while delivering a high quality pleasing to the eye finish.
The corrosion protection to the external steel work was a duplex coating system of hot dip galvanizing followed by the application of an epoxy primer and urethane acrylic top coat.
